The U.S. Open will be played at Chambers Bay in Washington, Nestled on the banks of the Puget Sound. One thing will be certain, the location and views will be fantastic, the wind and rain will blow (it is Washington), the rough will be thick, the fairways will be tight and the greens will be fast. Jack Nicklaus once stated on the traditional Open setup: "A difficult golf course eliminates a lot of players. The U.S. Open flag eliminates a lot of players. Some players just weren't meant to win the U.S. Open. Quite often, a lot of them know it." Welcome to the U.S. Open where the winning scores are rarely under par.

 

The U.S. Open is unique in that it allows entry for women and junior players, based upon two requirements; one being a professional and two that amateurs meet the amateur handicap requirements. Note; no women have yet to qualify; Michelle Wie did make it to the second qualifying stage once. The U.S. Open is also the only Major that requires an 18-hole playoff if players are tied after four rounds.

 

It’s too early to predict the winner, but one thing is for sure it’s the U.S. Open and like other Opens the unpredictable will happen.
